Broadway Nails Real Life Brush-On Gel Nail Kit (Review and NOTD)

Broadway Nails Real Life Brush-On Gel Nail Kit, £13.49, Boots

Another trip to Boots, another great find! Ever since the whole gel nails mania started I wanted to have mine done, but never really made the effort. So when I spotted the Broadway Nails Real Life Brush-On Gel Nail Kit (phew!) I thought I’d give it a try. I’d never seen anything like this before in the high street, and it looked quite good.

The kit lasts for 2 complete applications and it comes with 3 bottles (brush-on gel, brush-on activator and brush cleanser), 48 short length tips and a massive nail file. How does it work?

  1. Apply the tips on the nails like normal stick-on fake nails; file to level them with the surface of your  nail.
  2. Brush on the gel;
  3. Immediately after the gel, brush on the activator whist the gel is still wet, using the brush from the ‘brush cleanser’ bottle. Before moving on to the next nail, dip the brush back into the cleanser, then dip it into the activator to start a new nail. That will make sure the brush won’t carry any residues from previous nails.
  4. Repeat steps 3 and 4 and wait for the nails to dry.
  5. Apply nail varnish.

Broadway Nails claims this kit is perfect for beginners, and I couldn’t agree more. It’s easy to use and the instructions are quite clear. I decided to use the brush-on gel and the activator on my own nails because they were long enough naturally, so I didn’t need to do the whole fake nails application step. After applying the gel and the activator twice, I waited for about 10 minutes for my nails to dry (they looked amazing without any nail varnish on; so shiny and smooth!), then I applied one coat of nail varnish and one coat of my favourite top coat.

Unlike many other gel nail manicures, the Broadway Nails kit doesn’t require UV lights. I’m not an expert on the subject, so I can’t really talk about the benefits/downsides of UV lights, but if this works without UV lights it’s even better! The one big downside is the really strong smell of the liquids. It’s even recommended to use in a well ventilated area. So if you’re sensitive to smells, you may want to put on a little mask around your nose and mouth.

The end result was gorgeous! My nails look professionally done and incredibly shiny. I’ll wait a few days to see how good is the durability, but I like it so far. Next time I’ll give it a go with the tips and a darker polish :)

Have you ever tried the Brush-On Gel Nail Kit? How would you compare it to salon gel manicures?

Broadway Nails Real Life Brush-On Gel Nail Kit is available NOW from Boots, priced at £13.49 and it’s currently on a 3 for 2 offer.

Au revoir!

This looks like a fab product! I might actually have to try it as I love gel effect and it seems so easy, yet a fraction of the price of having gel nails done at a salon x

I got these a few months ago and for a while I was nervous to try them. But I just used it for the first time tonight and I’m pretty happy with them myself. I do wish I would’ve done the same as you and just put a few layers over my natural nail though. I used the French tips and they were extremely difficult to put on just right. I ended up with some of the tips lifting.. creating bubbles. Which makes them pretty noticeable. Although most of them didn’t lift and I filed the seam down as much as possible, as directed, they still created quite a high ridge where the tips cover the nails. I probably just need more practice but I thought I should post this since I didn’t read anything about it in the original blog or anyone else’s posts. Good luck everyone! And happy gelling!

Your nails look gorgeous and this sounds like a really cool little product. I get my nails done with gelish, they do use UV but i dont find it really damages the nail, it only costs 15 euro each time and it lasts for 2-3 weeks so altho the colour range in my salon is limited I cant really moan.

I may pick this up next time I’m in the UK tho, I wonder how good durability will be! xx

Yeah, I thought I’d give a go and buy it once and for all. I’m happy I did so :) Still waiting to see what the staying power is like, but regardless, I’m already happy with the application and shine! x

I just bought this kit from Wal-Mart. I followed the instructions carefully, but after I finished, my nails still ended up feeling slightly tacky to the touch. I was really irritated, so I read the trouble-shooting section of the directions. I said something about if they feel tacky it’s because the Applicator gel didnt have enough Brush-On Gel to attach and dry to. So I went out on a limb and added another coat of the Brush-On gel, and about a minute later, my nails were dry, shiny, and looked like I just left the nail salon. Such a wonderful investment!! Forget going to a salon and shelling out 30+ bucks for acrylic nails, I paid 10 bucks for this kit and Wal-Mart and was completely worth it!!! LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!!!

It’s best to do one nail at a time. The brush on gel has to be wet when u apply the activator. The activator will NOT dry if the bruah on gel was not wet when u applied the activator. I do one nail at a time to ensure the gel is wet when I apply activator. They dried perdectly
