Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter (Review, Swatches and GIVEAWAY!)

Ever since it was released in the United States in the end of 2011, Revlon Lip Butters were the object of desire of most beauty bloggers, including myself. In the UK, its highly anticipated launch occurred on 14 March 2012, sending everyone to their local drugstore to grab one (or a few!) before they ran out of stock. I did just that!

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter is a highly moisturising buttery balm that glides over the lips and hydrates whilst also giving them shine. According to Revlon, the formula contains mango, shea and coconut butter which helps to give your lips a soft and healthy glow. It’s available in 20 different shades, with colour intensity varying from sheer to medium. Unfortunately, only 14 of the 20 shades will be available in the UK, but I must say I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far.

The quilted-like colourful packaging matches the shade of the product and feels sturdy. It takes a good yank to open the lid, which I quite like because I’m sure the lid won’t fall off and make a real mess when I leave it loose in my bag. The one problem I had was, when I twisted the tube to reveal stick, the product looked as if it was melting, and so I had quite a bit of mess to clean up on the back side of the tube.

I got three shades: #045 ‘Cotton Candy’, #050 ‘Berry Smoothie’ and #090 ‘Sweet Tart’. Let’s have a closer look at the swatches.

‘Cotton Candy’ is a soft pink shade with gold shimmer. At first, I thought this would be my favourite shade, but it turns out it’s not as flattering on my lips as I’d imagined. I feel like it washes me out a bit and it enhances my dry patches, but overall it’s a pretty shade and maybe better suited on lighter skin tones.

‘Berry Smoothie’ is a deeper pink/berry colour. It looks almost red on the tube, but when you swatch it, you can see the colour comes out quite sheer. It’s not at all drying on my lips and I really like how it enhances the natural colour of my lips.

‘Sweet Tart’ is a bright pink shade. Now this is the real gem in the collection, in my opinion. It’s the softest and smoothest of all three shades I got and it comes out on the lips exactly how I’d expected. It’s bright and shiny, exactly what Spring is all about this year. Although it is a pretty bright shade, I don’t find it hard to wear because the texture is so soft. This is definitely my favourite shade of the entire collection!

I’ll probably have to go back to my local Boots to pick up some more shades before I can make my mind up as to whether or not I think they are really worth the hype, but I was definitely pleased with the  three shades I got!

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters are available NOW from Boots for £7.99 each.
