Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil (Review, Swatches & Photos)

Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil in 'Dark Brown'

Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil in ‘Dark Brown’, £2.99 || Boots

I’m a big fan of filing in my eyebrows with powder rather than pencil, but being the little beauty addict I am, I saw this eyebrow pencil by Rimmel and decided to give it a try (even though I’ve just confessed I prefer powder); oh, why not?!?

Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil in 'Dark Brown'

The Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil is pretty much self-explanatory; it’s a kohl pencil and the lid also doubles as a little brush so you can brush your eyebrow hairs before and after filling them in. To the best of my knowledge they only come in 3 shades (black, dark brown and hazel), which is pretty rubbish to be honest. I chose the colour ‘dark brown’ based on the fact that ‘hazel’ was too light and ‘black’ would probably be too dark, but even when I swatched it in store, I wasn’t convinced it was a good colour match for my eyebrows… unfortunately, I was right!

The pencil itself is quite smooth, but the pigmentation is very sheer. The ‘dark brown’ shade is quite a warm brown, which did not suit my eyebrows very much. I also found it hard to fill in my eyebrows with this pencil and make them look as natural as they normally look with powder eyeshadow. I wouldn’t say this is a bad product, but I honestly think you can get products that are a lot better and for a similar price.

If you’re looking for a good cheap eyebrow pencil and your brow hairs are a similar shade to mine, I would recommend the MUA Intense Colour Eyeliner Pencil in ‘Rich Brown’ (HERE); they are really easy to work with and only cost £1! But, if you are a fan of powder eyeshadow to fill in your eyebrows, my favourite is Benefit Brow Zings (HERE) or for a drugstore alternative try VIVO Ultimate Brow and Eye Kit (HERE).

Overall, unfortunately I wasn’t impressed by this eyebrow pencil. The shade range is poor and the pigmentation is sheer, which means you use a lot more product to get a decent result. I even tried using it as a brown eyeliner but I couldn’t get any colour payoff out of it. I probably won’t use the pencil as much, but the little brush is quite handy and I will keep that for touch ups.

Have you tried the Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil before? What do you think of it? Which is your favourite eyebrow pencil?
