I’m definitely a newbie in the face masks department; there was just nothing about the ones I’ve tried before that made me want to use them again. Then it becomes one of those things that I love reading reviews about but don’t actually go out to buy any. That was a long and rambly intro! Anyway, when Soap & Glory kindly sent me this face mask last week, I decided I needed to give it a proper try; my skin was looking pretty dull, so it was the perfect time for it!

The Soap & Glory No Clogs Allowed is a self heating deep pore detox mask – that’s right, ‘self-heating’! I think I was more intrigued than scared by this fact, so I went ahead and read a little bit more about it. According to Soap & Glory, this face mask helps prevent breakouts and blemishes by deep cleaning your pores and the addition of glycerin also helps the skin feel soft and supple. Unfortunately for my dry skin, this face mask is strategically formulated for oily and combination skin, but I still wanted to try it anyway.

The application is not rocket science; just slap the thing all over your face and enjoy, right? All very simple, but I do have a couple of tips that I picked up from my experience. Make sure to shake it REALLY well, otherwise the product will separate and it will come out really gooey and gloopy. You’re supposed to massage it onto your face, then wet your hands and scrub it until it turns blue; that’s when you’ll feel the ‘self heating’ magic happening.

It is quite an unusual feeling, and much warmer than I expected, but not uncomfortably hot. It only warms up the first time you wet and scrub it, after that it cools back down, so not to worry – your face will be just fine. Finally wait 5 minutes and remove the mask with a wet cloth; I used my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish muslin cloth and it was just like a cleansing routine.

Now the results. I don’t feel like I’m the best person to comment on how well this works because this mask was designed for oily and combination skin, and I have dry skin. So on me it felt ok, but it sort of dried out my skin which was to be expected, I guess. I did enjoy the whole ‘self heating’ experience, but that’s as far as it goes for me. I’d love to hear if any of you with oily or combination skin have tried this and what you thought of it! I’m sorry there’s no clear verdict here, but I just really wanted to talk about my own experience, share some ridiculous pictures of me wearing a face mask, and maybe also draw your attention to a product you didn’t know existed. :)
