25 Weeks Pregnancy Diary & Newborn Essentials

25 Weeks Pregnancy Diary & Newborn Essentials

Before I get into my 25 Week Pregnancy Diary, I wanted to share with you a little haul of all the things we got for our baby boy so far. I decided to only include actual things – not clothes – otherwise the video would have been too long and maybe a bit boring!

My lovely mother-in-law and sister-in-law took me shopping for Newborn Essentials; they were amazingly helpful, especially my sister-in-law, who has a 2-year-old little boy, and I wouldn’t have known where to start if it wasn’t for them. My dear mum also brought me loads of baby stuff from Brazil, so you will also see a bit of that on the video.

Since then, and with my sister-in-law’s help, I’ve managed to put together my List of Newborn Essentials, which consists of everything we could both think of that I will need for when my baby is first born and into the first few months. I’ll leave my list below, as it might be useful to some of you, but please remember this is not by any means a complete list of everything your baby will need. If you can see that I’ve forgotten anything vital, I would be very grateful if you could please let me know on the comments below so I can amend it.

After this successful shopping trip, I’ve managed to tick quite a few things off my list, and I’m now focusing on some of the bigger items, such as the buggy, video monitor and baby’s cot. Now let’s get to my 25 Weeks Pregnancy Update.

PREGNANCY DIARY

How far along? 25 weeks 2 days.

Total weight gain: About 11lbs, which means I gained 2lbs since last week, and I’m not joking when I say I can feel the strain of this rapid weight gain on my body. My belly is so heavy now that when I sit down for a long time, my bum starts to ache a bit! The only thing putting my mind at ease, is that I’m eating healthily most of the time, so my little boy must be going through a growth spurt!

Maternity clothes? Nothing new since last week, but I did buy a couple of non-maternity F&F slouchy long-sleeve tops at Tesco, one of which I’m wearing below.

Stretch marks? None yet, thankfully.

Sleep: Not great, but not bad either, except for the night before last. He kicked me so much in the middle of the night, that I kept waking up and struggled to fall back asleep. I’ve also had a couple of days where acid reflux and nausea have made bedtime and early mornings really rough for me! :(

Best moment this week: My 25 weeks midwife appointment, where I got to his heartbeat again! Now that there aren’t any scans to look forward to, hearing his little heart is the only comfort I get to know he’s doing ok in there! Also, I went shopping in Next and ended up spending a little fortune on baby clothes – I just love their baby boy section at the moment!

Miss anything? This week I have missed not having to worry about if everything I eat or drink is pregnancy-safe. Before I got pregnant I used to really enjoy the OKF Aloe Vera King Juice, which is so thirst-quenching and tasty! The other day, my husband came home with a bottle of this juice and, without even thinking I drank a couple of glasses throughout the day. Then it got me thinking that I never checked to see if it was pregnancy-safe, and it turns out the safety of aloe vera juices is actually quite controversial during pregnancy, and therefore, not recommended for pregnant women. I only had a small amount of the juice, so I’m sure everything will be fine, but I couldn’t help but worry a little bit for the safety of my baby. :(

Movement: Lots! If he’s uncomfortable, the little wriggler will continue to kick me until I move to a different position. He also responds to loud noises and temperature changes. So cute!

Food cravings: Nothing comes to mind, but I have been enjoying Brazilian cuscuz and eggs. Yum!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Just the same things as last week, but I’m feeling a lot less sick now.

Gender: A baby boy! :)

Labour signs: No. Lots of growing pains, though. My belly feels so tight and stretched some days!

Symptoms: Still dealing with a bit of nausea and lots of acid reflux and gas. My hair is looking thicker and shinier than ever, which is very nice. My boobs won’t stop growing and I’ve also noticed my nipples, the back of my thighs and underarms looking slightly darker; I’ve read that skin discolouration is common during pregnancy, and it occurs more frequently on olive or darker skin tones, like me. Definitely annoying, but hopefully it will all go back to normal after pregnancy.

Belly button in or out? Still in, but looking ever so stretched!

Wedding rings on or off? Off! My hands have felt less swollen this week, but I won’t attempt to put them back on, just in case I can’t get them off.

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy! Only a couple of rough evenings with acid reflux, but plenty of energy and very much in mood to get things done!

Looking forward to: My birthday in 6 days – yay! Also ordering our baby buggy, which I’ll be doing very soon. I think I’m going for the Quinny Zapp Xtra 2 Pushchair, which suits all of our needs and is quite affordable. Let me know if you have one, and what you think of it.

don’t forget a heater for the changing table! i find this extremely useful especially during colder months and when i needed to get my baby dressed after a bath. check this out: http://www.mytoys.com/Hartig-Helling-Radiant-Heater-for-Baby-Changing-Table-BS-50/Care/Hartig-Helling/KID/com-mt.ba.br01.26.05/1456872

also, here in germany newborns are normally transported in a pram and not buggy (buggys are for 6+ months) – doctors and midwives highly recommend that babies lie down and not be reclined or seated when they are not developmentally ready to sit up yet (normally babies sit up on their own between 4-6months). here, we normally get prams that can be reclined into a sitting position so they can be used for a longer time and there is no need to buy a new buggy when the baby can already sit up. i don’t know what the law is in your country but for physiological, developmental and safety reasons, i would recommend getting a pram than a buggy (would be more expensive but who cares about money when our babies welfare is to be considered?).

my pregnancy bible was ‘what to expect when you’re expecting’ – this was very informative and helped me prepare for and understand the changes in my body and mood week by week.

my first pregnancy (i have two kids) was a rather difficult one and i would get horrible cramps and contractions early on (starting at 17 weeks due to a complication) so a maternity belt was extremely helpful in giving support to my belly and my lower back and easing pains.

lastly, enjoy your pregnancy! i think every pregnant woman look their best (and i sure felt my sexiest when i was pregnant!) with their bright, glowing aura and shiny, full hair. you’re a gorgeous mom-to-be and i wish you an easy and safe pregnancy and delivery (later on, of course! you still have a long way to go!)

Hi, thank you for leaving such an informative comment. I really appreciate it and have definitely added the heater to my list! Although our house is pretty warm, even during winter, I can imagine babies getting fussy when they need to get changed – I would if I were them :)

I totally know what you mean about babies needing to lie down flat – it’s the same here in the UK, but the most popular buggys here (including the one I’m considering getting) sell a carrycot to fit the buggy (which is flat like a pram) or a newborn inlay attachment, which also means the baby is not at an angle. My sister-in-law actually used the same buggy we’re buying from the day her son was born until now. I read a lot about the importance of keeping babies flat on their backs when they are newborn, so I’m quite confident I’ve done enough research on the buggy I’ve chosen. But thank you anyway for drawing attention to the subject – I think it’s very important for mummies to be as informed as possible! :)

I haven’t yet got What To Expect When You’re Expecting, but it’s definitely on my list! :) The maternity belt is on my list as well – back pain is getting so strong now :(

Thank you for the well wishes! My pregnancy has been very healthy so far, which I’m over the moon about, and hopefully I don’t have too many nasty symptoms and side effects from now on. I’ve just about had enough of nausea and morning sickness!

Hope to see you again soon here on the blog and all the best for you and your family! :) x

Dear Ysis!! You look amazing in those photos!!! And you must be excited with all preparation!! As you said the other time you didn’t know where to start buying so many things!! Take care! Xx :)

Congrats! You look beautiful! I miss being pregnant :)! It isn’t really a necessity but a wipe warmer really helped. Our little guy hated being changed and those warm wipes really helped! For you, try Earth Mama Angel Baby’s “New mamma bottom spray” It really helps after labor! Also the similac app was a lifesaver to help keep track of feeding/sleeping/diapers.

oh, and for cradle cap, coconut oil was a miracle cure! He had it, I put it on one night before bed and it was completely gone by morning! Never came back!

    I hope those help :)! You’re an inspiration, I’ve started writing a blog! http://www.ontothenextpaige.ca
