Introduction
Zoeva took the beauty community and general lovers of pretty things by storm when they launched their very popular Rose Golden collection of makeup brushes. The collection comprises two sets of brushes – the Zoeva Rose Golden Luxury Set and the Zoeva Rose Golden Complete Eye Set; it introduced luxurious and great quality rose gold brushes with a surprisingly affordable price tag.
All of a sudden, my bloglovin feed got inundated with pretty pictures of these brushes, and although I’m about 2 years late to the party, I have finally taken the plunge and got myself both sets. I think it’s only fair I let you know what I think about them, but I will not be held responsible if, after you read this review, you feel a sudden urge to have them in your life! :)

Video
The excitement to try these brushes was real, so the day after they arrived, I set up my camera and recorded a First Impressions Review/Demo, where I tried to use as many of them as I possibly could, and I also compared the Zoeva brushes against the most similar brushes I had in my makeup collection, so expect to see a lot of comparisons with Mac, Real Techniques and Japonesque brushes. Zoeva Rose Golden Luxury Set
Description
The Zoeva Rose Golden Luxury Set contains 8 essential face and eye brushes for a daily makeup routine. They come in a large leather-looking brown pouch with rose gold details, matching the same beautiful design of the brushes. There is a mixture of natural hair (for powder products) and synthetic brushes (for cream products); they are essentially all the same height, which makes for a lovely uniform display on your dressing table and also very easy for travelling.
Contents
The 8 brushes are as follows:
- Zoeva 102 Silk Finish Brush (synthetic)
- Zoeva 142 Concealer Buffer Brush (synthetic)
- Zoeva 106 Powder Brush (synthetic)
- Zoeva 110 Face Shape Brush (synthetic)
- Zoeva 127 Luxe Sheer Cheek Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 227 Soft Definer Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 231 Petit Crease Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 317 Wing Liner Brush (synthetic)
Application
To see in detail how I use each of these brushes and how well they performed, watch my First Impressions video review here.
The Zoeva 102 Silk Finish Brush is such a lovely brush to apply my foundation; it gave me a very airbrushed perfect finish, and it was super quick to blend the product without it looking cakey – I’d say I got a very similar finish to what I get with a Beauty Blender, and much more perfected than what I get with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush.
The Zoeva 142 Concealer Buffer Brush is generally fine for blending my concealer, maybe just a bit stiff for under the eyes. I think the Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush is more flexible and blends concealer quicker.
The Zoeva 106 Powder Brush is a little gem of a brush! I used to love my Japonesque Travel Powder Brush, but now I can safely put that one away and enjoy a more precise powder application with my Zoeva brush. It’s so soft, yet it’s also sturdy enough to prevent over-powdering. I also used this brush to highlight my face, which wasn’t ideal, but unfortunately it was the only option from the kit.
The Zoeva 110 Face Shape Brush is considerably small, compared to the Real Techniques Contour Brush, and I found it to be really good for a defined contoured look, but far too small to blend any harsh lines or to bronze up my skin. I would have liked to see a bigger brush to blend the contour, like the Real Techniques Blush Brush, but that’s me being picky!
The Zoeva 127 Luxe Sheer Cheek Brush is lovely, fluffy and perfectly angled for blush application. Because it’s made of natural bristles, it gave me a much sheerer application than what I get with my Japonesque Blush Brush, which is not a problem – they are just made for different purposes and I like them both.
The Zoeva 227 Soft Definer Brush is lovely to apply one shade all over the lid very quickly, and also to blend the edges on the crease, much like the Mac 217 Brush – it’s kind of the most versatile eye brush you could possibly own, and the Zoeva brush is just as good as its rival from Mac.
The Zoeva 231 Petit Crease Brush definitely stood out from the crowd for me! As a fan of the smokey eye look, I’ve been missing a brush like this in my kit to define and accentuate the crease and outer corner of the eye, whilst also blending everything into a smooth V-shape. I already know I’ll get so much use out of this brush!
The Zoeva 317 Wing Liner Brush was good for both eyeliner application on my top lash line and also for filling in my eyebrows. I would have absolutely loved this brush if it was a bit firmer like the Mac 263 Brush, but overall, it’s a lovely brush.
Best Brushes
My must-haves from the Luxury Set are the 102 Silk Finish Brush, the 106 Powder Brush and the 231 Petit Crease Brush.
Zoeva Rose Golden Complete Eye Set
Description
The Zoeva Rose Golden Complete Eye Set contains 12 brushes to take you to a professional eye makeup level. They come in a small leather-looking brown pouch with rose gold details, also matching the colour scheme of the brushes. There are 7 natural hair brushes (for powder products) and 5 synthetic brushes (for cream products); some of these brushes are also present in the Zoeva Rose Golden Luxury Set, so you will have a few duplicates if you buy both sets.
Contents
The 12 brushes are as follows:
- Zoeva 142 Concealer Buffer Brush (synthetic)
- Zoeva 224 Luxe Defined Crease Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 226 Smudger Brush (synthetic)
- Zoeva 227 Luxe Soft Definer Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 228 Luxe Crease Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 230 Luxe Pencil Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 231 Luxe Petit Crease Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 234 Luxe Smoky Shader Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 237 Detail Shader Brush (natural)
- Zoeva 315 Fine Liner Brush (synthetic)
- Zoeva 317 Wing Liner Brush (synthetic)
- Zoeva 322 Brow Line Brush (synthetic)
Application
To see in detail how I use each of these brushes and how well they performed, watch my First Impressions video review here.
The Zoeva 226 Smudger Brush is the best brush I’ve tried to blend eyeliner or eyeshadow on my top lash line. It’s very sturdy and slim, so it doesn’t drag the product everywhere, and it has quickly become my best friend during a smokey eye when paired with the 317 Wing Liner Brush and the 231 Petit Crease Brush.
The Zoeva 230 Luxe Pencil Brush is perfect to smudge and blend on the bottom lash line, however, it’s not irreplaceable, and I can do just as good of a job with my cheaper EcoTools Bamboo Smudge Eyeliner Brush – they are pretty much identical.
The Zoeva 234 Luxe Smoky Shader Brush is the identical twin of the famous Mac 239 Brush for a fraction of the price and much more luxurious. If you buy it individually, the Zoeva 234 will cost you under £7 and the Mac 239 will set you back £21! It’s really great for general eyeshadow application on the lid, and an everyday staple in my makeup bag.
The Zoeva 237 Detail Shader Brush is one of those brushes that you didn’t know you needed until you had it. It applies eyeshadow on a much more precise scale, so we’re talking professional-looking inner corner and brow bone highlighting. I used to like my Real Techniques Accent Brush, but the Zoeva brush just seems to be slightly more efficient because it fits perfectly under my brow bone.
The Zoeva 322 Brow Line Brush is both a hit and a miss simultaneously for me; I didn’t like it to fill in my eyebrows with powder because it was too thick and it applied too much product, but I did enjoy using it after I had used the317 Wing Liner Brush on my brows to soften up any harshness.
I have yet to use the Zoeva 315 Fine Liner Brush, the Zoeva 224 Luxe Defined Crease Brush and the Zoeva 228 Luxe Crease Brush, so come back to see my opinion on these. Some of the brushes from the Complete Eye Set are also present on the Luxury Set, so I have not mentioned them again here.
Best Brushes
My standout brushes from the Complete Eye Set are the 226 Smudger Brush, the 231 Petit Crease Brush and the 234 Luxe Smoky Shader Brush.
Price & Availability
Both sets are priced at £56 / €65 each, so you end up paying £7 per brush on the Luxury Set and about £4.66 per brush on the Complete Eye Set, which I think is great value for money for good quality, expensive-looking brushes. Unfortunately, Zoeva brushes aren’t as widely available in stores, but you can get a hold of them online; the Rose Gold sets tend to go out of stock quite often, and I had to wait about 2 weeks to place my order for both sets.
In the UK, you can get them from Beauty Bay (here) and Love Makeup (here); I got mine from BeautyBay with free next day delivery (plus a free gift!), and they arrived the following evening. If you’re anywhere else in the world, you can get them from the Zoeva website (here); the prices there are in Euros and you may also be charged shipping and custom fees. Their Shipping page (here) has more information about costs and delivery times.
Final Thoughts
The Zoeva Rose Gold Brushes get a big thumbs up from me. They are undeniably beautiful, extremely well-made and definitely good value for money, especially if bought as part of one of the sets. I found that all of the brushes on the Luxury Set serve an essential purpose on your everyday makeup, and even though I would have liked to see a highlighter brush and a contour blending brush, these are far from being essentials and are more of a makeup-addict indulgence. The Complete Eye Set, as the name suggests, is very all-inclusive; I can forgive the lack of a brow & lash brush because all of the other brushes are so amazing!
I highly recommend these two sets for anyone looking to invest in a good full set of makeup brushes, without breaking the bank, or even if you just fancy upgrading and adding-on to your existing collection. If, however, you have all the brushes you could possibly need, but want to try a few of Zoeva’s best brushes, I recommend the 102 Silk Finish Brush, the 106 Powder Brush, the 231 Petit Crease Brush. and the 226 Smudger Brush.
Very recently, Zoeva added 8 new brushes to its collection and I can’t wait to try them (great review on Ree’s blog), but even more exciting is the brand new launch of the Zoeva Rose Golden Vol 2. Brush Sets, which are just pretty pink perfection! Ree has also reviewed the new sets here, and these will be available from the 23rd of February 2015 on Zoeva’s website & stockists.
What do you think of these Zoeva Rose Gold Brushes? Have you tried Zoeva brushes before? Would you buy any of the Rose Golden Sets?
