Review: Makeup Academy (MUA) Primer

Hi dolls!

The lovely people at MUA kindly sent me some products from their new range of cosmetics, including some amazing products from their Professional line as well. They are all very affordable, and most of them are sold for £1 in Superdrug, including a wide range of eyeshadow, nail varnish, lip gloss, blush and bronzer. I definitely recommend having a look at their full collection on the Superdrug website.

Today I’ll give you an overview of my favourite MUA product: MUA Primer.

First of all, the price is very attractive; at only £4, you get a 27ml compact black tube, which is very handy for travelling.

The description on the back of the product says it can be used alone or under foundation. For me personally, it only works as a standalone product if my skin is looking pretty perfect because the coverage it provides is the same you would get from a normal moisturiser.

The first thing I noticed when I squirted a bit of the product on the back of my hand was that it had a very runny consistency.

If you read my review of both primers from GOSH and MAC a while back, you will know that I prefer a primer with much thicker consistency, so from thicker to thinner I would say: GOSH, MAC and MUA.

As I started blending the product I felt a bit of a tingling sensation; I didn’t notice any increase in redness on my skin or allergic reactions, it’s just a bit ticklish.

As you can see, I started off with a clean face to show you as realistically as possible the effect you will get using MUA Primer on its own.

I had to wait about 2 minutes for it to completely set on the skin, but after that I was very impressed with the result. My skin felt so smooth and velvety, and although it didn’t clear out the redness on my face, it did make it look more uniform. Since I hadn’t used any concealer or foundation, the bags under eyes still looked pretty bad. Sorry!

If you fancy a clean face for the day with no makeup whatsoever, I recommend applying a bit of translucent powder to remove some of the shine of the primer and maybe some concealer on the dodgy bits. On the last photo I only applied powder because I wasn’t going anywhere, but if I were, some concealer would definitely be needed for the area under my eyes.

Overall, I’m very happy with MUA Primer; I think it gives your skin a soft touch and it’s a great affordable alternative to GOSH’s Primer. Thumbs up for this one!

I’m completely with you on the whole concealer thing! It helps brighten up the eye area and makes you look wide awake!
I personally don’t like to wear too many products on my face (specifically foundation) in the hot weather, but my skin is quite oily so I like to use Marcelle transulent face powder just to mattify it a bit.

p.s. is MUA only sold in the UK brand? Or can it be purchased in Canada? :) Thanks girl, you’ve been a doll!

@Anita Yeah, translucent face powder great just to give the skin a matte look!

I think at the moment MUA only sells to the UK, but I saw on their facebook page that they are planning to expand it to other parts of the world very soon!

Thanks for always stopping by with nice comments :)

I’ll tweet your blog to my followers! I know how hard it yes being a new blogger to get noticed!

@Ylle Pois é, sispa! Já testei 3… por enquanto ainda prefiro o da Gosh pro dia e da MAC pra noite. Esse da MUA é bom pra dia a dia como hidratante e deixa a pele bem suave! :))
