What To Wear On A Cruise Holiday: Norwegian Fjords
What To Wear On A Cruise Holiday: Norwegian Fjords
About 3 years ago, before I went on my first cruise, I searched all over the internet for information on what to wear on a cruise holiday, but I couldn’t seem to find anything current and appropriate for young people. So I just packed my entire wardrobe and hoped for the best! You can see what outfits I took on my first cruise here. And even though that blog post is nearly 3 years old, I still get lots of emails asking me advice on what to wear on a cruise holiday, so I thought I’d follow up with outfits from my most recent cruise to the Norwegian Fjords in August 2013.
We went for 7 days with P&O and it was our second time on board Aurora, so we were pretty familiar with the ship atmosphere, but of course, I still got absolutely lost walking around that huge ship! We had a round trip from Southampton to Stavanger, Olden, Geiranger and Bergen, with a couple of days at sea in between. Every cruise is different, but most cruise holidays have dress codes for the evenings; this time we had Black Tie, Smart, Evening Casual and a 60s & 70s theme night.
Now I’ve got my sea legs I definitely knew what to pack based on my experiences on previous cruises, but this was my first cruise further north, so what I packed was totally different from my summer holiday cruises. We had booked some excursions to go up the Norwegian mountains, which would require plenty of warm clothing, but we also had a few hot sunny days. I packed shorts, t-shirts, bikinis, long sleeve tops, cardigans, jeans, leggings and dresses for the evenings. I basically decided to layer up for warmth and not take a big coat, so I only took my Jack Wills Ingliston Gilet which has a hood to protect me from rain and wind.
If you’re going on a cruise, please keep in mind that your cruise may be totally different from mine and the weather plays an important part on what you should pack. The good thing about cruise holidays is that you’re not restricted to a certain amount of luggage, so you could always take your entire wardrobe with you – as long as you have room to store your cases in your cabin, better safe than sorry! Without further ado, here are my outfits and a few funny snaps from my Fjords cruise on the Aurora. P.S.: A moment of silence for my long hair, if you please… #LongHairBlues

Most of my outfits were ‘recycled’ from previous cruises, as I didn’t see the need to buy lots of formal dresses if I wasn’t going to wear them that much afterwards. I also mixed and matched the same pieces on different days and I relied a lot on my Long Sleeve Primark Stretchy Tops to make it look like the outfit was completely different. My Polo Ralph Lauren Snow Boots and my Jack Wills Ingliston Gilet were essential for keeping me warm and comfortable during the long excursion walks.
This was an amazing holiday and, as you can see from the photos, the landscape was absolutely breathtaking! I thoroughly recommend going on a cruise to the Fjords and I would definitely go again. Now I’m off to browse the P&O and Cunard websites for my next cruise holiday! :) I hope this is useful to some of you lucky people who have booked or are thinking of going on a cruise to the Fjords, looking for ideas of what to pack for your holiday. Let me know on the comments below if you’d like to see more posts like these from my cruise holidays to Belgium & Guernsey with Cunard and Portugal, Spain & Morocco with P&O.

This is exactly what I have been looking for monthsss! I am going on a Norwegian fjords cruise next month and had literally no idea what to pack! Thank you so much for this insightful post! I just wanted to ask you what kind of footwear do you recommend whilst sightseeing? Are wedge heels not ideal or is it better to wear trainers? Thank you once again!
