Charles Worthington Texturising Spray: A Disappointment?

Charles Worthington Texturising Spray

There are certain cult products amongst beauty bloggers and texturising sprays are one of them. Most bloggers swear by them, which makes it harder to resist that ‘I need this in my life’ urging thought. One of the most popular texturising sprays is the Oribe Dry Texturising Spray, which is extremely highly praised, but also extremely expensive. There’s a consensus in the blogosphere that the Charles Worthington Texturising Spray is a cheaper dupe of the Oribe one, so being the good ol’ ‘easily influenced blogger’ that I am, I went ahead and got it. Well, sadly, for me it was hate at first spray…

(Sorry, is it just me or the vertical lines being un-aligned on the pictures above are really annoying? #OCD)

The Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce Texturising Spray is meant to give you big, bouncy, textured and voluminous hair. To me, it is basically like an extremely sticky hairspray – it creates volume in two steps: spray & scrunch. So I got the volume, however, the surprising part for me, was that it also left my hair feeling like straw, completely tangled and impossible to run my fingers through – I had to wash my hands with soap to get rid go the sticky feeling! Maybe I’m being completely naive about it and maybe this is exactly what a texturising spray feels like – I wouldn’t know, this is my first one – but this is definitely not of what I expected.

I had an image of shiny, soft and voluminous hair, almost like it was lifted from the roots. I was right about the voluminous part, but totally wrong about the shiny and soft part. You do get volume, but to what end? I was left with sticky, knotty, unstrokable, straw-like hair – no, thank you. That is not my idea of a good hair day, no matter the amount of volume!

I’m constantly touching my hair and to have that uncomfortable feeling every time I touch my hair would drive me insane! With the whole of the world seeking the ‘big and messy’ hair look, I’m more conservative with my hair taste, and I much prefer a tidy hairstyle with a bit less volume and a lot more shine, softness and a bit of bounce. Shine over volume, softness over texture – that’s my kind of hair!

I know I’m probably one of the few that don’t swear by the ‘bigger is better’ and ‘volume at any cost’ slogans. So what the heck am I doing with a texturising spray, you ask? Well, I got sucked in by the #BloggerHype but I didn’t really know what to expect of it. So in fairness, this is not a bad review of the Charles Worthington Texturising Spray because the product does give you volume, but it’s a disappointing one for me because it’s just not what I expected and I don’t like the way it makes my hair feel.

This is not the product for me, unfortunately. If you’re thinking of getting the Charles Worthington Texturising Spray, or any other texturising sprays, consider the pros and cons carefully before parting with your money and make sure you know what to expect of this product. In a nutshell, it will give you a lot of volume, but it will also give you sticky and crispy-feeling hair. If that’s ok with you, then by all means; if not, don’t fall for the #BloggerHype like I did.
