Revisiting The Red Lip Look

Revisiting Red Lipstick

Wearing Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Standout

I’m one of those people who love the idea of wearing red lipstick, but hardly ever wears it. I could list several reasons why this is the case, but the two main ones are: 1) it’s much easier to pull off a standard pink/neutral lipstick with any makeup or outfit, and 2) because I hate being the centre of attention, and red lipstick demands a lot more attention by itself thank pinks and nudes.

However, once in a blue moon, when I need a pick-me-up, I turn to my favourite reds for help and I suddenly remember why the ‘Red Lip Look‘ is so favoured by many of us.

It hides a multitude of sins – If you’re ill, it will make you look healthier. If you have a pesky spot wanting to steal the limelight, red lipstick will gladly make sure that sucker stays obscured in the background. If your eye makeup is a bit imperfect, a red lippie will make it look like it’s all part of the look!

Yes, It can be worn with a smokey eye – I’ve found it to be a myth that red lipstick only looks good with minimal eye makeup. On me, I quite like a heavy brown and gold smokey eye, such as the one on the pictures above, paired with red lipstick for a super glam look!

It has the power to make you feel fierce – It’s actually quite magical how, suddenly, my self-esteem and confidence get a big boost when I’m sporting a red lipstick! I have no idea why, but the world is a much less scary place when looked through the eyes of a red lipstick.

Although I’m pretty sure my red lipstick collection will never come close to the size of my pink/nude lipstick stash, I believe having one or two fail-safe reds is essential and potentially life-saving for any girl. Oh dear, that statement made me feel like Elle Woods from Legally Blonde!

The two reds I feel most comfortable wearing are the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Standout (the one I’m wearing on the photos above), which has a very creamy and easy to apply formula, setting to a matte finish on the lips, and the Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in #01, which has a more traditional matte lipstick formula and is very long-wearing.

How often do you wear red lipstick? How does it make you feel? What’s your favourite red lipstick?
